My name is David R. Gately and I am a news junkie turned wordsmith. I grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts, outside Boston, and now live in Washington, DC, the lovely Nation’s capital.

For my undergrad I went to Suffolk University in Boston and for my masters, American University in DC. I am very proud return Peace Corps volunteer from Botswana, in southern Africa.

I am a full-time communications specialist in the DC office of a national travel magazine and a part-time ghost blogger for a major U.S. defense company. Always looking for ways to fortify my education and improve my skills, I am currently enrolled in a certificate program on emerging media journalism with the New York Times Knowledge Network and Ball State University.

When I’m not working or writing, I love reading books, mostly nonfiction (history and biographies) – Just Kids by Patti Smith is one of my recent favorites; the newspaper (singular) – the all-the-news-that’s-fit-to-print New York Times, of course; and magazines: Vanity Fair, New York and Esquire, to name just a few. I treasure riding my bike around DC to peek some of its glorious architecture, like the Library of Congress (inside and out), the Old Executive Building (outside only) and the spectacularly historic, civic-minded Lincoln Memorial (all around). I love movies where the complexities of humanity is the central theme – American Beauty (1999) and Igby Goes Down (2002) are two favorites that come to mind – and I like to travel, hopefully back to Africa one day soon, and to hang and drink coffee with friends, regaling politics, cultural and society.
